وزارت کشور مصر با انتشار بیانیه‌ای از انفجار یک بمب کنار جاده‌ای در یک خیابان پر‌رفت‌و‌آمد در قاهره، در نزدیکی ساختمان وزارت خارجه آن کشور خبر داد و گفت در این انفجار دو مامور ارشد پلیس و یک سرباز کشته و هفت نفر نیز مجروح شدند.

ماموران امنیتی خیابان‌های اطراف و تمامی خودروها را بازرسی و چهار مدرسه در مجاورت محل انفجار را تخلیه کردند. همچنین تمهیدات امنیتی را در خانه‌های مجاور و ساختمان رادیو و تلویزیون مصر افزایش یافت. این انفجار همزمان با بازگشایی مدارس و سنگین شدن ترافیک شهری رخ داد.

هدف از انفجار فوق یک مقر پلیس در نزدیکی ساختمان ۳۴ طبقه وزارت خارجه بود. هنوز فرد یا گروهی مسئولیت حمله را به عهده نگرفته است.

همزمان در روز یکشنبه، تلویزیون مصر از سقوط یک هلیکوپتر ارتش، که در ماموریت آموزشی بود، در منطقه الفیوم واقع در حدود صد کیلومتری جنوب غرب قاهره خبر داد. این حادثه ۶ کشته و ۱ مجروح برجای گذاشت. وزیر کشور مصر دلیل سقوط هلیکوپتر را نقص فنی اعلام کرد و گفت تحقیق درباره آن آغاز شده است.

از یک سال پیش و برکناری محمد مرسی، رئیس جمهوری اسلامگرا و تحت حمایت گروه اخوان‌المسلمین مصر، این کشور صحنه خشونت‌هایی بوده که عمدتا از سوی شبه‌نظامیان اعمال می شود. این خشونت‌ها ابتدا نیروهای امنیتی، عمدتا در شبه جزیره سینا را هدف قرار می‌داد، اما اخیرا به قاهره و برخی نقاط دورافتاده در غرب را نیز کشیده شده است.

دولت مصر نیز تاکنون بیش از ۱۴۰۰ نفر از حامیان مرسی را کشته و هزاران نفر را نیز زندانی کرده است.

سازمان دیدبان حقوق بشر یک ماه پیش خواستار تحقیق درباره کشته شدن صدها تن از شرکت کنندگان در تظاهرات دولتی در قاهره و موارد احتمالی نقض حقوق بشر توسط عبدالفتاح السیسی، رئیس جمهوری مصر شد.
