طی تازه‌ترین تحول در اختلافات میان جنبش دمکراسی‌خواه و دولت هنگ‌کنگ، پلیس آن کشور بامداد یکشنبه با معترضان درگیر شد.

ده‌ها پلیس مسلح به سپر و کلاه ایمنی وارد جمعیت شدند. به گفته خبرگزاری اسوشیتدپرس ۲۰ نفر در این درگیری مجروح شدند.

درگیری ساعاتی پس از آن رخ داد که دولت سرزمین هنگ‌کنگ گفت احتمالا روز سه‌شنبه مذاکره با دانشجویان تظاهرکننده را آغاز خواهد کرد. درگیری تازه پس از چندین شب درگیری میان پلیس و معترضان دمکراسی‌خواهی است که بخش‌هایی از کشور را فلج کرده است.

رئیس پلیس هنگ‌کنگ گفت سه‌شنبه زودترین موعدی است دولت در اختیار فدراسیون دانشجویی هنگ‌کنگ قرار داده است. او گفت پیشرفت‌های خوبی در جهت آماده شدن برای مذاکره انجام شده است.

چند روز پیش، مسئولان هنگ‌کنگ گفته بودند که به دنبال ازسرگیری مذاکرات با رهبران معترضان هستند. این مذاکرات در آغاز ماه اکتبر متوقف شده بود.

معترضان خواستار برقراری دمکراسی کامل سرزمین هنگ‌کنگ هستند و با طرح چین برای برگزاری انتخابات در هنگ‌کنگ مخالفند. رهبر هنگ‌کنگ گفته است که آماده مذاکرات برای دمکراسی است اما مقامات کمونیست چین در پکن می گویند تصمیمشان برای تایید صلاحیت نامزدهای انتخابات سال ۲۰۱۷ را تغییر نخواهند داد و اصلاحات بیشتر انتخاباتی را اعمال نخواهد کرد.

روز شنبه، پلیس ضد شورش هنگ‌کنگ با استفاده از اسپری فلفل و باتون به ده‌ها معترض حمله کرد.

مقامات می گویند ۲۶ نفر در درگیری‌های صبح یکشنبه بازداشت و ۱۵ مامور پلیس مجروح شدند.
