Today’s Woman will discuss the role of women in democracy with our guest from Paris Ms. Azadeh Kian, Professor of Sociology at the University of Paris. The last segment will discuss the way technology can help low-income children in developing nations.

News and Views will advance its report on Iran's new parliament. It elected as its speaker former top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, a conservative heavyweight who has been critical of President Ahmadinejad. In his first speech, Larijani made clear his intention to be a powerful speaker, warning that parliament could use its powers to make Iran revise its cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog. Iranian President Ahmadinejad has requested a meeting with the Pope, a diplomatic source told Reuters on Tuesday. A meeting between the political and spiritual leader would be a first. Italy's foreign ministry says Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi declined to hold bilateral talks with the Iranian leader. Drewery Dyke of Amnesty International will be our guest from the London studio, to discuss the release of their yearly report “The State of the World’s Human Rights,” especially as it pertains to Iran. Our London stringer covered the Amnesty International news conference Tuesday.

Roundtable hosts Dr. Shahla Shafigh, author and human rights activist from London. The topic will be the release of Amnesty International’s yearly report, as well as other human rights issues.

Late Edition offers its 3rd installment about Afghanistan and opium production. The program will also have more about the life and work of director/producer/actor Sydney Pollack, a segment on the student movement in Iran, and a promotion for tomorrow’s live “Town Hall Meeting ” with Iranian/American youth.

Newstalk will discuss Iran news of the week with political analyst Alireza Nourizadeh from London and Moshen Sazegara, in the DC studio. Topics include the new Iranian Parliament, the IAEA report on Iran’s nuclear program, and Iran’s role in the Israeli/Syria peace talks.
